Why participate in LFcoachingOnline™?

LFcoachingOnline™ is designed to support any teacher who wants an opportunity to share lessons and results and receive feedback for improvement. How does LFcoachingOnline™ work?

LFcoachingOnline™ offers just-in-time support to teachers for planning, teaching, checking, and acting on the results of standards-based instruction and assessment tasks. LFcoachingOnline™ provides teachers with ideas, questions, and issues related to their work and offers widely applicable teaching standards, practices, tools, principles, and research findings for current and future standards-based instruction and assessment tasks.

LFcoachingOnline™ delivers coaching entirely by email. LFcoachingOnline™ works well for teachers who want the availability of coaching at any time -- from their homes, classrooms, or any location with a computer connected to the Internet. This saves teachers and schools travel time and costs, allowing teachers to be in a comfortable place to communicate.

At the start of LFcoachingOnline™, the coach and teacher exchange information about their backgrounds and experiences. The following is one example of how LFcoachingOnline™ might work for a teacher using TaskBuilderOnline™:
  1. At the beginning of each month, the teacher develops an action plan for a standards-based instruction task that will be developed, taught, and analyzed and sends the action plan to the coach for review and feedback;

  2. The coach reviews the action plan and provides comments and suggestions;
    (First email message exchange completed)

  3. The teacher develops the standards-based instruction task and sends a draft copy to the coach for review and feedback;

  4. The coach reviews the draft task and provides written commendations, suggestions, and questions for improvement within the draft task;
    (Second email message exchange completed)

  5. The teacher addresses the coach’s feedback by revising the task and, then, teaches the task and scores the results;

  6. The teacher summarizes the results and sends them to the coach for review and feedback;

  7. The coach reviews the results and teacher comments and offers commendations and suggestions for improving the task for the next time this task is taught and for monitoring student progress on the standards that were taught;
    (Third email message exchange completed)

  8. At the end of the month, the teacher reflects about the following items and sends the responses to the coach:

    • What has been achieved during the past month?
    • What was intended but not achieved?
    • What are the priority instructional goals that must be addressed in the next month?
    • How can LFcoachingOnline™ assist next month?

  9. The coach reviews the teacher reflections and suggestions and proposes a mutually supportive approach to coaching the teacher during the next month.
    (Fourth email message exchange completed)

NOTE: All information exchanged in LFcoachingOnline™ is absolutely confidential between the coach and the teacher unless both parties agree to involve third parties such as school principals, other teachers, or instructional consultants.
